What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

I have progressively been experiencing more and more problems with NexTV to the point now where I must say the overall quality of the IPTV is no better than it was with OverseaTV.  I am experiencing pixelization, video freezes, loss of auido and on and on.  Each day my quality continues to degrade and NexTV seems incapable or unwilling to improve the quality.  I am now considering cancelling my service since I cannot continue to pay for a service that is not being delivered.

Is this a systemic problem with NexTV or could this be something unique to just me?  My Internet speed is over 3 Mpbs, so I am fairly certain it is not with my ISP provider.

Before I cancel, I would be interersted in hearing from others in regards to their recent satisfaction with the overall quality of the video and audio provided by NexTV.

    Thanks.

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

Thanks for the feedback.  I have heard that NexTV has been promising great things in the future, and I was willing to be patient to a point, but after a while either they have to deliver or it is time for customers like myself to consider cancellation since the aggrevation of having German TV is now more grief than not having the German TV at all.  At least without German TV, I would not even be bothered that I am missing a program whereas now it is frustrating since I have a belief that I can watch a German program when in reality the quality of the program is so poor that I really can't say I enjoyed what I attempted to watch.  In fact, it actually is upsetting since I am paying for a service that is not being delivered as promised.

My advice now to potential customers would be to wait and see before signing up for NexTV.  Once they can provide steady, realiable quality service after a period of time, then it would be less of a risk than it is now to invest in a technology that still has not proven to be able to provide a stable video and audio product to its customers.

I trust that NexTV is trying to make a go of their business venture, but they seem to be in over thier heads as they progressively move backwards instead of forwards.  Having been a huge NexTV supporter in the beginning, it saddens me that they may be going down the same path as OverseaTV.  If I don't see improvement soon, I think it is time I cut my losses.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

I do understand how you feel, but i wouldn't say that they are "going down the same path as OverseaTV"

I do think that maybe they are finding this iptv service to be more then they expected but i do think they will get things straightened out.  I think they are working on things and thus kinda letting things slide,, untill they are really ready to roll out the good stuff.  Well that's what i am thinking and hopeing. at least.

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

You have given me something to think about, Redace, and perhaps NexTV is just experiencing some growing pains.  Perhaps I will wait a short while longer before making a decision to cancel.  I don't want to be hasty with my decision, especially if NexTV indeed will offer what they promised to deliver along with the improvements that have been rumored.  If I don't see any improvements by June, though, I think I will "bail" and just accept that IPTV is a technology that is still ahead of its time and needs more time than I am will to give for technology to work out the bugs.

Thanks for your comment.  It helped me regain my patience -- but my patience is still not without limits.

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

Strange, but I have had very little issues with the service.  While at time I do get some amount of pixilization, I chalk that up to slowness in the system rather than a problem with Nextv.  When I have had issues, I immediatly report them to support@getnextv.com and they have done a good job of correcting them ASAP.  I will tell you that despite some of the minor issues, I can say with 100% certainty that I can still watch my German tv almost problem free and have even begun to tape shows while I am out.  It works so much better than German TV.  I look forward to the future enhancements (whatever they might be).

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

    Garry,

I am wondering if the quality of service is dependent upon where one lives geographically, i.e. data is routed via different servers, etc., based upon where one lives and based upon the usage or demand on that particular router, equipment may or may not get overloaded.  I don't understand enough about the routing of data, though, to address this issue, but I do understand enough to question it.  I have run multiple speed tests using various vendors' speed test packages, and I record a solid 3.0+ Mbps so I don't know where my problem is.  I know the pixelization problem has been apparent since day 1, but the pixelization I am now referring to has degraded to the point where the images break up entirely, and I get squares all over my TV screen periodically.  Images are so distorted that they aren't recognizable, video freezes and starts up again, and then at other times the audio just goes out all together and eventually this is followed by a solid video freeze that won't recover without a reboot of the Wave 300 STB.  Then there are periods where the audio and video work just fine.  I have noticed this for the past several weeks, and I trusted that NexTV would resolve the problem, but to the contrary, the problem just continues to worsen.

Thanks for providing an email address where I can address my concerns directly to NexTV.  I wasn't aware that they had a special email address for issues and concerns.  Perhaps they can address my problem and help me identify where the problem is and what is needed to resolve it. Like you, I am eagerly waiting for improvements, any improvements, as well as expanded programs such as MDR and/or WDR, but after an initial noteworthy debut by NexTV, recently all I have been experiencing has been problems that disallow me from viewing with enjoyment any program.  It seems to me that NexTV should provide a $ credit / refund to customers who subscribe but cannot view programs due to technical issues.  Hmmm....

Thanks again, and I do appreciate the feedback.

FYI - I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and have a cable modem connection.  My speed, measured via different sites, averages about 5 Mbs

    Cheers

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

    Hi there,
I've got Russian package from nextv, may be 2 month. So far everything works fine. No pixelization, no black screen as it happened with my previous provider.
May be your problem is your internet provider? I have Sympatico, DSL and several of my friends switched from Rogers to DSL. With cable provider is not only the speed, but how many people in your area are Rogers' subscribers.
My advise - try to watch your Wave receiver at your friends who has DSL internet. You will see the difference.

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

Been there, done that...  Problems I am experiencing may be regional.  I do live in the west, and I suspect there are problems with bandwith that supports this geographical area since subscribers I know in the Southwest inform me they are having similar problems.  Still, I have had my DSL provider out several times to verify my line, and all tests show no errors, no problems.  I even got a new router and was switched over to an OC3 circuit.  No improvement.  Therefore, I conclude the problem must be with NexTV.

PS:  I have been so disappointed with NexTV that I have not even bothered since Saturday to even look at the German TV to see if there have been improvements.  My interest in NexTV is rapidly waning.  I am hoping that if sufficient time passes before I attempt to watch German TV again that NexTV may have the problem resolved, therefore I avoid further disappointment.

    Time will tell...

    Thanks, anyway.

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

servus well i live on the east coast and i have one of the fastest internet connection in the country and i also have had many of the same issues as you.  For me most channels are pretty good (Russian and German package i have ) BUT the only one i really have time to watch  for my Russian Hockey is RTR sport. Well that one channel seems to have the most issues and many times now i cannot even watch the games they are just to bad. But i did notice at certin times it is actually ok.
They recently added a new NTV channel that shows all soccer games and well i gotta say that channel is pretty darn good.  So i am not sure what is all going on but the last time i did talk to them i was told they would be changing over to new servers that would make things much better. well i hope soon they will  so i am gonna hang in there.  Have you written to them?? if yes what have they said to you?  everytime i have had to talk with them they have been great,,, i just really do think they are overwhelmed.

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

    RedAce,

Yes, I have informed NexTV about my problems, but I have not received any resolution.  Their answer was vague.  "Improvements coming..."   Nothing specific on what improvements or when they will come.  Most importantly, my problem was never addressed in the reply, so this is why I have been frustrated.  The collective attitude seems to be much like it was with OverseaTV.  They want our business, but they are not willing or capable of providing quality service to the customers.  I guess they must think as long as video and audio are available,  regardless of how poor or unusable, they have met their objectives.  Maybe so, but they certainly did not meet the subscribers' minimum standards of expectation.  They must not realize customers do expect minimum standards to be met, and right now minimum standards are not being met.  So I expect a credit in my monthly billing statement to reflect the fact that their product was not usable.

Either NexTV will become a quality IPTV service provider or just one more "fly-by-night" organization trying to make a quick buck.  I think we will soon find out the path NexTV has committed itself to take.  Empty promises eventually reveal themselves.

Re: What's Up with the lousy service now being provided by NexTV

As a former ITVN subscriber I couldn't help but notice the uncanny resemblance of all your comments to those we used to post on the itvnforums site (now defunct). We had a pretty active forum, centered around Setanta Sports, so when something went wrong everybody knew about it right away. "The freakin' match just went down! @##$XX*!!!"

There were times it was something obviously geographical (only a few had the problem) and no fault of ITVN. Other times the problems were nationwide, which would point to the ITVN service itself.

NexTV seems to be suffering from the same growing pains. Unfortunately, ITVN could not weather theirs and went under. I don't know if these companies just get started with too little capital to fully implement the service or whether IPTV technology itself simply isn't quite ready for prime time.

It will be interesting to see how NexTV progresses. As others have noted, IPTV has fantastic potential. You just have to keep in mind that "potential" is a word for what you haven't yet done.Smile
